Scott Bushnell to speak at NM Chamber Spring Breakfast
March 22, 2004

The North Manchester Chamber of Commerce sponsors a breakfast in the spring and fall. The breakfasts are a networking opportunity for the Chamber's membership and have featured addresses from various community leaders. This year, the spring breakfast is Tuesday, April 20 at 7:00 a.m. at the Manchester College Upper Union Lounge. After a hot buffet-style breakfast, Scott Bushnell of American Specialty Companies will speak on "A Community is Known by the Companies it Keeps." Bushnell is vice president/chief communications officer at American Specialty, Roanoke, Indiana. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, he is a former Associate Press reporter and Fortune 500 company spokesperson. A graduate of Dutchess (New York) Community College and Indiana University Purdue University at Fort Wayne, he has edited three books, including the history of Lincoln National Corporation. Bushnell is co-author of the book Roanoke: The Renaissance of a Hoosier Village. The book is the story of the evolution of Roanoke, typical of small-town America. Roanoke grew and prospered, but by the 1980s its painful decline was evident. What makes Roanoke unique is that it managed to nurture itself back to stability and prosperity. Its renaissance began in 1990 with the arrival of a new and vital company. As the company grew into an American success story, so did its commitment to its hometown. By 2003, Roanoke became recognized as the "crown jewel" in its county and can serve as an example for other small towns in America that are seeking revival.

"I hope to see every member at the Spring Breakfast," said Executive Director Betsy Woods. "The information that will be presented is of great significance to every business-and every citizen-in this community. I encourage our members to invite their staff, their neighbors, even their friends for an interesting and exciting morning."

Cost is $6 per person for members, $8 for non-members. Those wishing to attend must RSVP by Tuesday, April 13 to the Chamber, 260.982.7644 or nmcc@kconline.com.
